New Delhi: Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat have suffered heavy losses due to the recent cyclone ‘Tautke’. Cyclone Toutke warned the eastern part of India that the cyclone was threatening to calm down. The meteorological department said that the cyclone could recall last year’s hurricane ‘Amphan’.

Hurricane ‘Yas’ is likely to hit the eastern states of India on May 26-27. The hurricane is said to be even more severe than Amphan.

Following the meteorological department’s instructions, the West Bengal and Odisha governments have directed senior officials to take necessary measures to deal with the cyclone.

The situation could turn into a hurricane in the next 72 hours. From May 23, the wind speed will increase to 50 to 70 kmph.

Moving northwest, the cyclone could hit the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha by the evening of May 26.

The cyclone could affect West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya. Rain and strong winds are likely to blow in these states from May 25.

Hurricane ‘Yasa’

A few days ago, the hurricane was named ‘Tautke’ by Myanmar. Oman has named the cyclone ‘Yas’ after a few days. The word ‘it’ means ‘disappointment’. Cyclones are named after different countries in a chain system. Hurricane nomenclature began in the Atlantic region in 1953. Eight countries in the Indian Ocean region have been naming cyclones since 2004 as per India’s instructions. These include India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman and Thailand.
