A few days ago, Sunderlal Bahuguna was found to be positive. He was later admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Rishikesh. He breathed his last during treatment at around 12.00 noon on Friday.
His body will be cremated at Purnanand Ghat in Rishikesh in a state of political observance.
Sunderlal Bahuguna had contracted pneumonia along with corona infection. They were placed on the support of the Sipp machine. Their oxygen levels had also dropped. He also had high blood pressure and high blood pressure. Doctors tried to save him, but to no avail.
Tributes from the President and the Prime Minister
President Ramnath Kovind has expressed grief over the death of Sunderlal Bahuguna. Ramnath Kovind paid tributes to him, saying, “The glorious chapter in the field of environmental protection is over.” The President also said that his identity as a true Gandhian after receiving the Padma Vibhushan will continue.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over Bahuguna’s demise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed the feeling of ‘irreparable loss to the country’. “The simplicity and compassion of Sunderlal Bahuguna, the founder of the Chipko movement, will inspire people for ages,” he said.
