Guwahati: The Assam Rifles of the Indian Army and the Assam Police on Sunday killed seven militants belonging to the rebel outfit Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) in a joint operation. The clash took place in West Karbianglong district, bordering Nagaland. Seven militants were killed in the clashes, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The security forces had received information that DNLA militants were hiding. The militants opened fire as security forces surrounded them. At least seven militants were killed in the operation. 2 were seriously injured. A large quantity of ammunition and 4 AK-47 rifles were seized from the slain militants, police said.

A search operation is underway by the security forces. The operation was led by Prakash Sonowal, Additional Superintendent of Police, West Karbianglong District. The Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) was formed by two militants two years ago. The rebel group aims to make Dimasa an independent country.
“It will be as devastating as Hurricane Toutke and Hurricane Amphan.”

The head of the terrorist organization is named Naisodao and the secretary is named Kharmindao Dimasa. The rebel group is active in Dima Hasao and West Karbianglong districts of Assam. Earlier on May 19, DNLA militants had killed a youth in Dhansiri area. Following the incident, security forces launched a search operation.
