Chandigarh: The US vaccine manufacturer Modern has refused to supply the modern vaccine directly to the Punjab government. Some states in the country have invited tenders globally for vaccination. Also some states are making contact with other countries. The central government has approved vaccination for all citizens between the ages of 18 and 44 from May 1. But the vaccination campaign has cooled down as many states do not have stocks of vaccines available.
Vaccines are currently being produced by only two companies in the country. The Serum Institute Covishield and Bharat Biotech are producing covacin vaccines. India has approved Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine to address the shortage of vaccines. However, many states do not have adequate stocks of vaccines.

The states demand that the central government should take responsibility for vaccination of citizens of all ages. The Center should also take up the responsibility of negotiating with foreign companies. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Sunday addressed a press conference on the issue.

The central government has claimed that two billion doses of the corona vaccine will be available in the country by the end of this year.
