Highlights:
- Channel’s Editor-in-Chief Suresh Chavanke in controversy
- ‘Speak without hesitation’
- The program uses graphics to transform the attack on the mosque
Editor Suresh Chavanke was seen at the event supporting Israeli attacks on Palestine. The show also featured altered graphics of a missile being fired at Al Masjid an Nabawi in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
Editor Suresh Chavanke was seen in the program saying, “We must support Israel to eliminate our enemies and jihadists in a proper manner.”
In this regard, a delegation of ‘Raza Academy’ had met Mumbai Additional Commissioner of Police Sunil Kolhe and demanded action against the channel. A case has also been registered at the Paydhani police station in Mumbai.
Besides, the Indian Civil Liberties Union (ICLU) has written a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar objecting to the program. It was alleged that the channel was airing ‘provocative, offensive and inciting violence’. It is also expected to affect India’s relations with Saudi Arabia.
On May 20, Sudarshan Channel, while explaining this, claimed that the use of graphics is ‘artistic freedom’.
Notably, this is not the first time that the Sudarshan News Channel has been embroiled in controversy over its promotion of violence. Earlier, Sudarshan News Channel and editor Suresh Chavanke had got into trouble for claiming to have exposed the infiltration of Muslims in the administration in a program called ‘UPS Jihad’.
