The incident took place in Parsa Shukla village of Sant Kabir Nagar. Ram Lalit, a 60-year-old farmer, fell ill and was shifted to a hospital in Gorakhpur for treatment. He was later found to be covid positive in the corona test. He died during treatment.
Ram Lalit has three children and some grandchildren. However, Ram Lalit’s children refused to shoulder his father’s body due to fear of corona in the village. The children ordered a JCB on a rental basis to dispose of the father’s body. With the help of this JCB, a pit was dug in the field. After that, with the help of JCB machine, his father’s body was picked up and brought to the field. The bodies were dumped directly into the pit from the JCB and the pit was filled with soil.
The family members said that the funeral was going on in the village in a similar manner due to fear of Corona. Many villagers are present to witness this incident. Some have even captured video of the incident in their mobiles. “We have informed the district collector about such incidents and no action has been taken by the authorities even after the reversal of the week,” the village sarpanch said.
On the other hand, the Uttar Pradesh government is claiming that the corona infection situation is under control. However, the fear in the minds of the citizens is still there.
