News Agency, New Delhi

WhatsApp is trying to pressure its users to agree to a new privacy policy even before the ‘Personal Information Protection Bill’ comes into force; It is also sending notifications several times a day to get their approval, the Center told the Delhi High Court.

The central government has termed WhatsApp’s efforts to get ‘consent by trickery’ by hitting notifications on users as ‘anti-user action’. The central government has also asked the court to instruct WhatsApp not to send notifications to users in order to implement its new privacy policy.

The Center has made this claim in an affidavit filed in response to several petitions challenging WhatsApp’s new privacy policy. The first petition was filed in January by advocate Chaitanya Rohilla. WhatsApp’s new privacy policy will allow the company to access the entire user’s online activities without government oversight, it said.
