The anti-CAA movement was led by the All Manipur Students Union, Gold Students Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, representing eight states in the north-east.

During the agitation, the organizations also demanded the release of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. Gogoi, who joined the protest last year, was arrested by police.
On Friday, several organizations including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, All Assam Student Union (ASU), Assam Jatiyavadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad and Lachit Sena staged rallies at various places across the state.
The agitation was resumed from Shivsagar, where the CAA Act was opposed last year. Protesters say the CAA law is against the identity, language and cultural heritage of the natives. The Center has been asked to withdraw the law.
