The anti-CAA movement continues; Students on the streets waving black flags

Guwahati: The suspended movement against the Citizenship Reform Act (CAA) is a picture of resumption. The protesters had decided to suspend the agitation in the wake of the Corona transition. In the northeastern states, the movement has been revived by some student organizations against the Citizenship Reform Act.

Students’ unions (NESO) protested against the law in many places by waving black flags. These include North East Students Organization (NESO), Khasi Students Union (KSU), All Assam Students Union (AASU), Naga Students Federation (NSF), Mizo Zhirlai Paval (MZP), Twipra Students Federation, ALSA Naga Students Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirla Paul (MZP), Interface Students Federation and many more.

The anti-CAA movement was led by the All Manipur Students Union, Gold Students Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, representing eight states in the north-east.

During the agitation, the organizations also demanded the release of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. Gogoi, who joined the protest last year, was arrested by police.

On Friday, several organizations including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, All Assam Student Union (ASU), Assam Jatiyavadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad and Lachit Sena staged rallies at various places across the state.

The agitation was resumed from Shivsagar, where the CAA Act was opposed last year. Protesters say the CAA law is against the identity, language and cultural heritage of the natives. The Center has been asked to withdraw the law.
