New Delhi: While the second wave of corona infections is on the rise in the country, the ‘Delta Plus variant’ of the corona virus seems to be on the rise. This altered form of the corona virus could cause the country to face a third wave of corona infections. So far, more than 40 cases of Delta Plus variant of Corona virus have been detected in the country. Most of these cases have come from Maharashtra.

According to medical experts, Delta Plus is still in the ‘variant of concern’ or ‘variant of interest’. A double mutation of corona virus was first detected in Maharashtra. According to experts, the Delta Plus variant can boost patients’ immunity. Experts say that the ‘Delta Plus variant’ has been created by changing the ‘Delta variant’ which was found earlier in India.

Cases of Delta Plus variant have been found in other states including Kerala, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. So far, Maharashtra has the highest number of cases at 21, Madhya Pradesh at 6, Kerala at 3, Tamil Nadu at 3 and Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir at the rate of one each.

The officials had informed about the Delta Plus variant at a press conference held by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had said that the Delta Plus variant was found in nine countries, including India. These include India, the UK, the US, Japan, Russia, Portugal, Switzerland, Nepal and China.

States have already been given instructions on how to handle the Delta Plus variant. Efforts are being made to prevent the spread of Delta Plus variant, said Rajesh Bhushan.
