railways: Big decision of Railway Ministry; CCTV will be installed in all long distance trains including locals

New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has approved the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in all coaches of EMU and passenger trains. The decision has been taken to prevent crimes in the railways, to investigate suspicious movements and to consider safety reasons. CCTV cameras have already been installed in 4141 coaches.

EMU and passenger trains will have CCTV surveillance

The Ministry of Railways has approved the installation of CCTV cameras in electric multiple units (EMUs) and passenger trains. CCTVs are being installed in EMUs and passenger trains for the safety of passengers.

It is the constitutional responsibility of the state government to monitor, prevent crime, register cases, investigate them in the railway area as well as in running trains, maintain law and order and monitor suspicious movements, its security is the responsibility of the railway police. To secure the train journey of the passengers and to keep a close eye on the criminals, CCTV cameras are being installed. This will help the Railway Police and the District Police in registering and investigating crimes.

Strict action will be taken against the criminals

It has been decided to install CCTV cameras in the coaches of all trains, including EMUs and passenger trains, to curb anti-social elements and criminals on the railways.
