The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made changes in the rules for issuing driving licenses. Under the new rules issued by the government, automakers’ associations, NGOs and private companies will also be allowed to run training centers. After the training, these institutions are also allowed to issue driving licenses to the citizens.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Wednesday issued new guidelines in this regard. Accordingly, the new facility for issuing driving licenses will be available not only in training centers but also in Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

How to file an application?

Firms, NGOs, private companies, automobile associations, vehicle manufacturers’ associations, autonomous organizations, private vehicle manufacturers and all such legitimate entities can apply for the recognition of ‘Driving Training Center’, the ministry said in a statement.

These legal entities will be required to have the required facilities on the land prescribed under the Central Motor Vehicle (CMV) Rules 1989. The application can also be submitted to any State or Union Territory. For this you have to present your financial capacity to manage the resource.

According to the new rules of the central government, the state government will have to disseminate information other than the method of accreditation of driver training centers. The process will have to be completed within 60 days after applying for the driver training center. The training centers will also have to submit their annual report to the RTO or DTO.
