The Center on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that only two persons from outside the state had bought land in Jammu and Kashmir despite the repeal of Section 370.
Answering a written question, Union Home Minister Nityanand Rai has given information about land sale in Kashmir. With the repeal of Section 370, the question was raised as to whether people from outside Kashmir are willing to buy land there and how many people have bought land in Kashmir.
“As per the information given by the Jammu and Kashmir government, since the repeal of Section 370 in August 2019, two persons have made two land purchase transactions in Kashmir,” Rai said. It was also asked whether the government and people from other states face difficulties or obstacles in buying land in Kashmir. “No such incident has been reported to the government,” he said.
On August 5, 2019, the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked and the state was divided into two Union Territories. Under this, the central government also made changes in the rules of residence in the state. According to the new changes, a person who has lived in Kashmir for at least 15 years will become a permanent resident of the region. The administration has decided to issue permanent residency certificates to central government employees and their children who have been working in Kashmir for ten years. Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had the power to make permanent residency rules.
