Twitter India: ‘Twitter’ action, Congress account locked after Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Twitter India has taken action on the social media accounts of Congress and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. After Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account, now the official Twitter account of the Congress party has also been locked, the party claimed.

Action has also been taken against the accounts of several party leaders and activists, including Rahul Gandhi. The Twitter accounts of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Union Minister Ajay Maken, Lok Sabha party leader Manikam Tagore, Assam in-charge and former Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Women’s Congress president Sushmita Deo have also been suspended.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was temporarily shut down last Saturday. The action was taken on Rahul Gandhi’s social media account after a photo of a visit to the parents of a nine-year-old victim in the alleged rape and murder case in Delhi was shared on Twitter. Meanwhile, the Congress had clarified that the necessary process was underway to restore the account and that Rahul’s Twitter account would continue to be used for other social media platforms until it was restored.

A few days ago, Rahul Gandhi had posted a photo of the parents of the rape and murder victim. The National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child later sent a letter to Twitter and Delhi Police demanding action in the matter. Rahul Gandhi’s post was later removed by Twitter on Friday night.
