New Delhi: Claiming that the official Twitter handle of the Congress party was locked by Twitter India, the Congress said that it was a digital emergency. Saying that this action was taken by Twitter under the pressure of Modi government, Congress has also attacked the central government.

Notably, the party’s former president and MP Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account is already locked. The Twitter accounts of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Union Minister Ajay Maken, Lok Sabha party leader Manikam Tagore, in-charge of Assam and former Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Deo were also suspended.

The party’s social media chief has claimed that this is the pressure of the Modi government. ‘Twitter is working under pressure from the government. They have blocked 500 accounts of our leaders and activists across the country. We have to understand that our voice cannot be suppressed by Twitter or the government, ”said Rohan Gupta, Congress social media chief.

After Rahul Gandhi’s account was locked, party leader Shashi Tharoor advised Twitter to review its policy. Shashi Tharoor said, “Action should be taken against the culprits in the case of rape of a nine-year-old Dalit girl, not against Rahul Gandhi for alleged violation of law.”

“They are obliged to take action on the accounts of those who violate Indian law and Twitter policy. There are laws but the policy can be reviewed. Directly locking the account is an action against the freedom of expression of the citizens, ‘Tharoor said.

Shashi Tharoor has questioned the dual role of Twitter, saying that no action is being taken by Twitter when a photo of the victim in the Hathras rape case was posted on social media on August 2 by a BJP national spokesperson.

Last week, Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was reportedly locked after he posted a photo of the parents of the rape and murder victim.

It is a digital emergency and the more social media accounts are locked, the more aggressive online Congress workers will be, the Congress said.
