New Delhi : New variant of Corona ‘Omicron’ is causing concern all over the world. On the other hand, there is talk that the vaccine used to prevent coronavirus will be effective in counteracting this variant. This was stated by Sameeran Panda, Senior Scientist, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Changes in the genes and structure of new variants of the corona virus have been observed. Will these changes increase its infectious potential or reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine? It is being tested, Panda said.

There is no reason to panic, though a new variant of the Corona has arrived. Instead, citizens should take a second dose of the vaccine and not delay taking it. Also, follow the guidelines on corona, Panda said on Saturday.

Many changes in the virus’s genome have led to the development of immunosuppression by vaccines against its spike protein, according to the WHO. We will have to wait and see how this type of virus develops at the level of large population. Vaccines used in India – Covacin and Covishield – have previously been found to be effective against other forms of coronavirus. Only time will tell whether these vaccines will be effective against mutant variants B.1.1.529. New variants of the corona virus have caused changes in the genome and structure in other countries. But research is under way to determine if the changes will increase its susceptibility to immunizations, said Panda, head of the ICMR’s infectious diseases and epidemiology department.
