According to police, the incident took place at Rehras Sahib in the evening at the Suvarna Mandir. An unknown person suddenly jumped from the railing and entered the temple and tried to pick up the sword placed in front of Guru Granth Sahib. At the same time, the person was caught by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee members present and taken out. He was beaten to death by a mob. The body has been shifted to Civil Hospital for postmortem. At first glance, it appears that he had come to the Golden Temple alone, and no evidence has yet been found to identify the young man. Police are investigating further.

Bhai Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, executive member of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, said that the incident at Shri Amritsar Sahib was unfortunate. He also demanded an immediate inquiry into the incident. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has also reacted strongly to this. Attempts have been made to desecrate Darbar Sahib. This is a tragic event. “I have discussed the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah and he has assured me that appropriate action will be taken in this regard,” Sirsa said. He also said that the Home Minister would take up the matter with the Punjab Chief Minister.
