Panaji: The Panaji constituency is being touted as the most talked about assembly election in Goa. Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar’s mutiny has posed a challenge to BJP’s Babush Monserrat. Along with the traditional battles between the BJP and the Congress, the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Trinamool Congress has added color. Therefore, attention is focused on the elections in Goa. Monserrat, who joined the BJP from the Congress, was given the nomination in Panaji, while Utpal also claimed the same constituency. Monserrat was replaced by another candidate, who was ready to withdraw. In Panaji, there is a latent wave on my side and I am getting the support of the people, claims Utpal.

Menino da Cruz, a former BJP corporator who joined the Congress last year, is openly promoting Utpal. Moreover, Uday Madakaikar, a former mayor and one-time staunch supporter of Monserrat, has started helping Utpal. What is special is that in Talegaon, Madkaikar is campaigning for the Congress. Congress loyalist and former mayor Surendra Furtado has also refused to campaign for Congress candidate Elvis Gomez. Local BJP office bearers Deepak Mhapsekar, Vaidehi Naik and many activists also campaigned for Utpal. Each of these individuals is supporting Utpal for personal reasons. They are all aiming at Montserrat with a gun on Utpal’s shoulder, a political analyst said.

The guns of propaganda cooled

Goa Assembly election campaign ended on Saturday. Voting is taking place in Goa on February 14. There are 301 candidates in the fray for 40 seats in the state. Apart from BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party, Trinamool Congress, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, NCP, Shiv Sena and Revolutionary Govans are also in the fray.
