UP: Horrible accident during Haldi ceremony; 13 die after falling into well

Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh): A shocking incident has taken place at Nebua Naurangia police station in Kushinagar district. While a large number of relatives had gathered for a yellow ceremony, the net on the well broke and many people fell into it and at least 13 of them drowned. The death toll is feared to rise. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the incident and directed the concerned authorities to immediately start relief and rescue operations. According to information received, a turmeric ceremony was held on Wednesday at a house at Nebua Naurangia School Tola. During this time worship is also performed on the well. For this, a large number of family members, neighbors and relatives had gathered near the well. There were many girls and women standing on the net of the well. The iron mesh broke due to overweight and everyone on the mesh fell into a deep well. The accident took place around 9 pm. The locals brought a big ladder and immediately started rescue and relief work. Following this, local administration and fire brigade have also reached the spot. Rescue operations are underway and 13 bodies have been recovered. About 30 people were injured in the accident and the death toll is expected to rise.
