Violence erupted in Bogtui village in Birbhum on March 21 after the assassination of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh. Several houses were set on fire. Eleven people were killed in the blaze. The country was shaken by this incident. The Mamata Banerjee government had appointed a special inquiry team to probe the matter. However, the High Court had earlier ruled that the entire probe should be handed over to the CBI. Accordingly, the CBI has started an investigation into all aspects of the incident.

After receiving information that the four accused named in the FIR in the Birbhum arson case had passed through Mumbai after the incident, the CBI team from Kolkata reached Mumbai directly. The squad arrested the four from Mumbai on Thursday morning. This is the first arrest since the CBI came to know about it. The names of the two accused, Bappa Sheikh and Sabu Sheikh, could not be ascertained. The four will be produced in a Mumbai court on Friday and will be remanded in CBI custody, an official said. All the four accused will be brought from Mumbai to Rampurhat as soon as they are remanded in custody and further investigation will be carried out, the official added.
