The two variants of Omicron, BA.1 and BA.2, are said to have come together to form the ‘XE’ variant. The first patient infected with the new variant was found in Britain on January 19. It is estimated that the XE variant can propagate at speeds up to 10 times that of Omicron. Therefore, if this variant is introduced in India, the number of corona patients is likely to increase significantly.
