Adar Poonawala, chief executive officer of Serum Institute of India, took to Twitter to announce the decision on the price of covshield vaccine. ‘Serum has changed the rates of covshield vaccine for private hospitals. According to the new tariff, the rate for Covishield will be Rs 225 per dose instead of Rs 600. Vaccines will be supplied to private hospitals at this new rate from now on, ‘said Poonawala. He further added that the decision to reduce the cost of Covishield vaccine was taken after discussions with the central government. “We welcome the decision of the central government to give precautionary dose (third dose) to all citizens above 18 years of age,” Poonawala said.

Meanwhile, Corona’s threat remains. He was of the view that steps should be taken to make booster doses available to as many citizens as possible. With that in mind, the central government took a major decision on Friday, announcing that a booster dose of the corona vaccine would be available to citizens over the age of 18 from Sunday. The dose will be available only at private vaccination centers, the health ministry said. Following the government’s announcement, the dose of Covishield vaccine will be Rs 600 per dose for eligible citizens, the Serum Institute of India had said. However, that has now changed.
Meanwhile, free booster doses will continue to be available at government vaccination centers for health workers, first-line staff and sick people over 60 years of age. However, private hospitals and private vaccination centers will have to pay for booster doses. Only those who have completed nine months of receiving the second dose of the corona vaccine will receive the booster dose.
