According to police, the boy, a resident of Jagatpur, was taken to Ramlila Maidan by his friends on a motorcycle on April 10. He was then taken in the direction of Salon Road. From there, some youths took the boy to a park and beat him. One of the assailants forced the boy to lick the soles of his feet. One of them filmed the incident and circulated it on social media.

After the video went viral, the victim went to the Kotwali police station with his mother and lodged a complaint. The police registered a case and started investigation. However, the police did not explain why the boy was beaten. An FIR has been registered under various sections in the case and eight accused have been arrested and sent to jail, said Ashok Singh, Area Officer, Dalmau.
