Gujarat Independent MLA Jignesh Mewani, who made controversial tweets against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was granted conditional bail by a first class magistrate on Monday. However, after receiving bail, he was arrested immediately in another case. The action was taken in connection with the attack on a female police officer.
Mewani was arrested on April 19 from Palanpur in Gujarat and taken to Kokrajhar in Assam. He was later remanded in police custody for three days by a first-instance magistrate. The woman was arrested immediately after she was granted bail in the case on Monday. The incident took place while Mewani was being escorted by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) from Guwahati Airport to Kokrajhar. A case has been registered at Barpeta Road Police Station.
