The Modi government had tried to bring this amended law in 2014 by changing a law brought by the UPA government during its tenure regarding land acquisition. The amended law proposed to acquire land without consent for five purposes under multi-crop land (Section 10A) for public infrastructure, including national security, defense, rural infrastructure, industrial corridors and PPP. This provision was strongly opposed by experts and citizens.
