India China: Foreign Minister boycotts UNSC meeting chaired by China

United Nations: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has boycotted a UN Security Council meeting chaired by China. The ministerial-level talks were chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. India was represented at the meeting by Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringala. China came to its senses last year after a violent attack on the Indian Army near the Line of Actual Control in the eastern Ladakh region. India’s role was evident in the absence of the Foreign Minister. Ministers from all other countries, however, attended the meeting.

Harsh Shringala said in his speech that the infection of Corona virus has exposed global weaknesses and mistakes. ‘The delay in a unified global response has exposed the weakness of the multilateral system, which is evident today. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during the global supply chain, from unequal distribution of vaccines. This underscores the need for global cooperation and strong multilateralism, “said Shringala.

India joined the United Nations in January as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Jaishankar then attended ministerial meetings in Tunisia in January, Britain in February and Vietnam in April. China will hold two more meetings after this. One is Africa – Covid 19 Recovery and the other is to increase the security of peace envoys. Many council meetings have been held virtually in the background of Kovid 19.
