Maharashtra has the highest number of 11 deaths
In the last three days, 23 people from five states have been killed in the cyclone. The highest number of 11 deaths was reported in Maharashtra. Of these, 4 deaths were reported in Raigad district, 2 in Ratnagiri, 2 in Thane and one each in Sindhudurg and Dhule districts. According to official figures, 6,349 villages in Maharashtra were hit by the cyclone.
Earlier on Monday and Sunday, five deaths were reported in different districts of Karnataka. In Goa and Tamil Nadu, 2-2 people each lost their lives in the storm.
The danger was averted
Toutke cyclone has now been upgraded from a ‘dangerous cyclone’ to a ‘cyclone’ category, said Manorama Mohanty, managing director, Ahmedabad MET.
According to SN Pradhan, director general of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the storm has made Evana its worst. The storm is expected to be mild by Tuesday evening.
According to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, three people from the state have died in the cyclone. He said about 40,000 trees had fallen and about 16,500 houses had been damaged.
