The Center has expressed the need to register all cases accordingly by notifying the ‘black fungus’ under the Outbreak Act. Therefore, confirmed cases of suspected black fungus will be reported to the Ministry of Health.
“All government and private hospitals as well as medical colleges need to follow the guidelines for the detection, diagnosis and management of black fungus,” Love Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry, said in a letter to the states.
Patients who have recovered from the coronavirus infection have been found to have a number of physical ailments related to the functioning of vital organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, and brain.
Notably, in the state of Maharashtra alone, as many as 1,500 cases of Evanna black fungus have been reported, resulting in the loss of nearly 90 lives.
Nine black spear patients have also been found in Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, black fungus has been notified under the Public Health Act.
