New Delhi: Today (Saturday) is the 17th day of the farmers’ agitation against the Agriculture Act. All the discussions between the farmers’ delegation and the central leaders so far have been fruitless. Farmers are adamant on their demands. Every effort is being made by the government to convince the farmers of agricultural laws. Discussions are underway with farmers at several levels. But farmers say agricultural laws should be repealed. Therefore, now the Modi government has started trying to explain the benefits of agricultural law through advertisements and interviews.

As there was no way out of the discussion, the government has now resorted to advertising to reach out to the farmers. An advertisement from the Ministry of Agriculture appears in the major newspapers of the country today. In these advertisements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen holding the hand of a farmer. This is an attempt to explain the benefits of agricultural law.

The advertisements, which were published in Hindi, also highlighted ‘true’ and ‘false’ issues. The Ministry of Agriculture has tried to make its point in this advertisement. Through this, the government has once again assured that the MSP will not come to an end.

So far in the current kharif marketing session, this year’s procurement at minimum guaranteed prices has increased by 22.5 per cent to 368.7 lakh tonnes as compared to the same period last year, the government said. The purchase was made for Rs 69,612 crore. In the kharif marketing session which started from October 2020, it was officially stated that in the year 2020-21, the government will buy foodgrains from the farmers at minimum guaranteed price.

On the other hand, in an interview to Navbharat Times, Union Minister Piyush Goyal claimed that the leadership of the farmers’ movement was not in the hands of the farmers but in the hands of the Maoists and the Left. Goyal says that the Left is trying to sell its agenda through agitation.
