The Haryana government had decided to set up grain ATMs for the citizens. These are part of the ATM pilot project. Grain ATMs have been set up at some places in the city under this scheme.
Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said that ATMs will save people’s time but they will be able to get food grains with proper weight. He also said that ‘Right Quantity to Right Beneficiary’ is the main objective behind this grain ATM.
How does a grain ATM work?
Grain ATM is an automatic machine. The ATM of the bank will work in the same way as you have seen. The machine, set up under the United Nations’ World Food Program, has been called an automatic, multi-commodity, grain distribution machine.
Biometric system and touch screen
The grain ATM machine is equipped with a touch screen as well as a biometric system. In order to get grain from this machine, the beneficiary has to register the Aadhaar, ration card number on it. Three types of grains like wheat, rice and millet can be purchased from this machine.
