Pegasus Scandal: Committee of Inquiry against Pegasus espionage, Mamata’s decision

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to set up a committee to probe the Pegasus phone hacking case in the state. Retired Justices MV Lokur and Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya have been appointed to chair the committee.

Trinamool Congress MP and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee was also named in the list of possible targets in the Pegasus espionage case.

It is alleged that the espionage was carried out by Pegasus Spyware, developed by the Israeli company NSO. How exactly was this hacking done? This will be investigated. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed hope that this small step would awaken others.

If France and Israel are ordering an inquiry into the Pegasus case, why can’t India? He also raised such a question.

Chidambaram also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself give an explanation in Parliament on whether Pegasus was used or not.
