Bangalore: Karnataka’s 78-year-old defunct Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has finally met Governor Thavarchand Gehlot and tendered his resignation. The Governor also immediately accepted the resignation of the Chief Minister. However, the governor urged Yeddyurappa to act as caretaker chief minister till the next chief minister is sworn in.

While announcing his resignation in his speech, the Chief Minister felt emotional. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister for two years despite being over 75 years of age.

I have taken this decision myself so that after the completion of two years of government, someone else should accept this responsibility. The governor has accepted my resignation. Will continue to participate in various activities of the party. After his resignation, Yeddyurappa said he would work to bring the party to power in the upcoming elections.

Discussions have been going on for days that senior leaders at the Center have asked Yeddyurappa to resign. Against this backdrop, Yeddyurappa had visited Delhi and met several senior leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. Also, since last week, the influential Lingayat community in Karnataka had also tried to increase their pressure by expressing their support for Yeddyurappa. However, BS Yeddyurappa today tendered his resignation just as his government was completing two years.
