Not only is he remembered for his dedication to the country, but he is also known for his immense love for his beloved Dimple Chima. Capt. Vikram Batra was killed in the 1999 Battle of Kargil while fighting the enemy at an altitude of 16,000 feet.

Dimple Chima and Vikram Batra first met in 1995 at the Punjab University in Chandigarh. Both had taken admission for MA in English. But both of them could not complete their education. “Luckily we came close,” Dimple said. He gave an interview to the news site The Quint.

The wedding was over

In 1996, Vikram Batra was selected for the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. This prevented them from getting married. But something happened that caused them to get married.

Four rounds were taken

Both of them used to go to Manasa Devi Temple and Gurudwara Shri Nada Saheb for darshan and prayers, said Dimple. After hitting one round, Vikram Batra suddenly said to Dimple, ‘Congratulations Mrs. Batra, you both hit four rounds with your partner, you didn’t notice’. I was stunned to hear this. He was committed to their relationship, Dimple said.

The blade cut the thumb and filled the cannabis with blood

In another visit, Dimple had asked Vikram Batra about marriage. At that moment, Vikram took a blade out of his pocket and cut off his thumb. He then filled Dimple’s cannabis with blood with his thumb. “It was the most precious moment of my life,” Dimple said. Dimple waited for Vikram Batra. They are still waiting for him after he is martyred. Dimple is not married.

‘Sher Shah’ was Vikram

Pakistan had also bowed to the bravery of Capt. Vikram Batra. Pakistan was referring to him as ‘Sher Shah’ in its talks. When he was martyred on July 7, 1999, Delta Company had won 5140 points. Enemy outposts at Point 4750 and Point 4875 were destroyed. He had killed three enemy soldiers before being shot. His slogan was ‘Yeh Dil Maange Mor’. The announcement was very popular at the time.

Captain Vikram Batra, who led the toughest campaign in the Kargil battle, was posthumously honored with the Paramvir Chakra. This is the largest gallantry award given by the Indian Army.
