It is learned that the incident took place around 10 pm on Friday in Yesvantpur-Nizamuddin Sampark Kranti Express (Train No. 12629). Additional Superintendent of Police Pratima S. Matthew has given more information about this. The incident took place near Bhopal while the Sampark Kranti Express was heading towards Delhi. The victim did not have a ticket. She was sleeping in the passage near the toilet in the AC coach. At the same time the accused came there and told her that he would get a seat in the general’s compartment. He made a move when she went with him as he was going to get a seat on it.

Instead of a general, he took the victim in a pantry car. The man raped the girl in the store room there. The victim tried to free herself from his clutches. She called for help. However, he threatened to throw her off the train. He then passed by. The victim then went to another box and told the whole story. Two passengers came to her aid and then the police was informed as soon as the train arrived at Bhopal station. The police took serious note of this and immediately launched a search operation. All the 15 vendors of Sampark Kranti Express were arrested and interrogated. The accused was later arrested from Jhashi.

Meanwhile, the victim had come from Mumbai. She wanted to go to Delhi. The car from which the girl came from Mumbai was very crowded. So the girl got out of the train at Bhusawal station. There she caught the Contact Revolution Express. She did not have a ticket for that car. Throughout the course of events, she has had to deal with such a horrific situation. This incident has again raised the question of safety of female passengers in long haul trains. Police have been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
