The deceased was identified as Santosh Patil, 37, of Lodi in Udupi district on Tuesday. The primary presumption is that he committed suicide. Santosh had recently accused BJP minister Ishwarappa and his staff Ramesh and Basavaraj of bribery. A case was registered against Ishwarappa on Tuesday night after his brother Prashant Patil lodged a complaint against him for inciting him to commit suicide. According to the complaint, in 2020-21, the residents of Hindalga village had visited Ishwarappa and requested him to construct drains, roads and footpaths for drainage. Ishwarappa gave permission for this work. The work contract was awarded to Santosh. Santosh had invested Rs 4 crore for the work and his bill is still pending. Santosh met Minister Ishwarappa several times and requested him to approve the bill and provide funds; But for that, Ishwarappa’s close associates Basavaraj and Ramesh were demanding 40 per cent commission from Santosh.
