Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Shinde ordered an inquiry on Thursday after a video of bodybuilder Bobby Kataria smoking on a SpiceJet flight went viral on social media. A video of Kataria, who has 6.3 lakh followers on Instagram, lighting a cigarette in the back row of a SpiceJet flight has gone viral on social media. On January 20, 2022, flight SG706 from Dubai to Delhi was boarding and the cabin crew members were busy completing the on-boarding process when the smoking incident took place, SpiceJet said.

It is not allowed to carry lighter, smoking in the plane. Despite this, Kataria is seen smoking in the plane in this video. Jyotiraditya Shinde clarified that we are investigating the incident and irresponsible behavior will not be tolerated. The video of this incident came to light in January itself and after that a letter was written to the concerned airline. A complaint was then sent to the police in Gurugram. Sources in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said on Thursday that the police have filed a complaint. SpiceJet had already investigated the incident in January. According to the aviation regulator, airlines have the right to deny permission to a passenger for a certain period of time if he violates any rules. Accordingly, Kataria’s name was placed on the ‘travel ban list’ for 15 days in February.
